BIOGRAPHY

Board-certified in orthopaedic trauma surgery and sports medicine, Prof. Dr. Erik Hohmann is a German. He received his education and training in South Africa and is a consultant orthopaedic and trauma surgeon. In Munich, Germany, he finished a fellowship in orthopaedic sports medicine under the tutelage of Prof. Andreas Imhoff. He has a higher academic Medical Doctorate in Orthopedic Sports Medicine Biomechanics in addition to a PhD in Orthopedic Sports Medicine. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Glasgow and board-certified in orthopaedics, trauma surgery, and sports medicine (FRCS, FRCS Tr & Orth). Previously, Dr. Erik held positions as both a Consultant Orthopedic and Trauma Surgeon at Rockhampton Hospital and a Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Queensland in Australia, where he specialised in arthroscopic surgery, sports medicine, and complex knee and shoulder reconstructions. He is presently a Professor at the School of Medicine at the University of Pretoria in South Africa. Additionally, he has been an editor for the Journal of Arthroscopy and Related Research (Editor in Chief James Lubowitz) for the past seven years, a member of the Journal of Science and Medicine in Sports' Editorial Board for the past ten years, and a member of the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery's review committee (JAOOS). He has written five books, ten book chapters, and more than 200 journal articles in the area of orthopaedic sports medicine. He has worked as a team doctor for a number of professional and semiprofessional sports organisations over the past 22 years, as well as for individual athletes.
