Package Description
DIAGNOSTICS Both Eye Schirmer's test:
The Schirmer's test is done to see if the eye is producing enough tears to keep it moist. Filter paper is placed inside the lower lid of the eye to perform the test. After 5 minutes, the paper is removed and its moisture content is determined.
Disease Overview:
Suspected Dry Eye
Dry eye illness is a frequent problem that arises when your tears aren't able to keep your eyes lubricated enough. Tears may be insufficient and unstable for a variety of causes. Dry eyes might develop if you don't generate enough tears or if the tears you do produce are of low quality.
Disease Signs and Symptoms:
- In your eyes, there is a stinging, burning, or scratchy feeling.
- Mucus in or around the eyes that is stringy.
- Light sensitivity.
- Redness in the eyes.
- It's as though there's something in your eyes.
- Contact lenses are difficult to wear.
- Driving at night is difficult.
- The body's response to the discomfort of dry eyes is watery eyes.
Disease Causes:
Long-term contact lens usage, herpes virus infections, or other causes of a neurotrophic cornea might produce decreased feeling in the cornea. Graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) is a kind of graft-versus-host Sjogren syndrome and other autoimmune or connective tissue illnesses such as rheumatoid arthritis and lupus, as well as thyroid disease, are examples of systemic diseases.
Disease Diagnosis:
Your doctor can determine the reason of your dry eyes with an eye exam that includes a full history of your overall health as well as your eye health. A test to determine the amount of tears you shed. The Schirmer test can be used by your doctor to assess your tear production.
Disease Treatment:
You may be able to control your dry eyes by cleaning your eyes often and using over-the-counter (OTC) eyedrops or other lubricant solutions. If you have a long-term (chronic) problem, use eyedrops even if your eyes are OK to maintain them lubricated.
