Package Description
Endo-Vascular Laser Therapy EVLT :
Endovenous laser varicose vein surgery is a technique that reduces varicose veins by using heat from a laser. Varicose veins are swelling, bulging veins that most commonly affect the thighs and calves. A laser is a light-emitting device that emits a tiny beam of radiation.
The varicose vein is closed and shrunk via laser surgery, which results in scar tissue within the vessel. This closes the vein. Instead, blood travels through other veins in the area.
If your varicose veins are painful, red, and swollen, your doctor may recommend laser surgery (inflamed). If the skin around your varicose veins is inflamed, laser surgery may be indicated.
Varicose veins are normally not a significant health issue, although they can be uncomfortable. You can possibly dislike the way they seem.
Disease Overview:
Phlebitis
Phlebitis is a vein irritation. Thrombophlebitis is an inflammatory condition caused by one or more blood clots in a vein. Thrombophlebitis most commonly affects the legs, although it can also affect the arm or other regions of the body.
Thrombophlebitis is an inflammatory condition caused by one or more blood clots in a vein. Thrombophlebitis most commonly affects the legs, although it can also affect the arm or other regions of the body. A vein thrombus produces discomfort and irritation, and it can also restrict blood flow. Phlebitis can affect either the superficial or deep veins.
Veins on the skin's surface are affected by superficial phlebitis. The illness is rarely life-threatening, and with correct treatment, it typically goes away quickly. Because superficial phlebitis can sometimes lead to deep vein thrombophlebitis, a medical examination is required.
Deep vein thrombophlebitis is a condition that affects the major blood arteries in the legs. Large blood clots can develop and break off, causing them to travel to the lungs.
This is a serious condition called pulmonary embolism.
Disease Signs and Symptoms
Superficial phlebitis
A painful red region along the skin's superficial veins normally develops gradually. As the inflammation follows a superficial vein, it may seem as a long, thin red patch. It's possible that this region will feel firm, heated, and tender. Itchy and puffy skin may surround the vein. The affected region may throb or burn.
When the leg is dropped, symptoms may be exacerbated, especially when initially getting out of bed in the morning. It's possible that you'll get a low-grade fever. When a peripheral intravenous line is inserted, phlebitis might develop. Along the vein, the surrounding region may be painful and sensitive.
If you have an infection, you may notice redness, fever, discomfort, swelling, or skin disintegration.
Phlebitis of the deep veins
Although it has a similar appearance to superficial phlebitis, some people may not have any symptoms.
Pain and swelling may be felt across the entire leg. The lower leg, for example, may enlarge for no apparent cause. If the illness develops chronic and was not appropriately treated earlier, some patients get fever from a superimposed bacterial infection, as well as skin discoloration or ulceration.
Disease Causes:
Damage to the vein wall or a blood clot blocking a vein can cause phlebitis. Thrombophlebitis is the inflammation induced by a blood clot, or thrombus. Blood clots can form in veins at the skin's surface or deep within your muscles.
- A medical or surgical operation might cause superficial phlebitis as a side effect.
- A blood clot is more likely to develop if a vein is injured. Clots can form even when there is no damage. The following are some of the risk factors for thrombophlebitis:
- Staying in bed or sitting for lengthy periods of time, such as in a car or on an airline, causes a stagnant or sluggish flow of blood from the legs in a dependent position (This pooling of blood in the legs leads to thrombus formation.)
- A sedentary lifestyle is one in which one does not engage in any physical activity.
- Obesity
- Cigarette smoking
- Certain medical illnesses that enhance the blood's clotting propensity, such as cancer or blood disorders Injury to your arms or legs
- Birth control pills or hormone replacement treatment
- Pregnancy
Disease Diagnosis:
- Your doctor will examine you and ask you questions about your symptoms.
- A blood test called D-dimer measures a chemical produced when a blood clot dissolves. If this blood test comes back negative and you have no risk factors, a blood clot is unlikely.
- Ultrasound can identify blood clots or blockages, particularly in the bigger, more proximal (upper leg) veins. To assist identify blood clots and the location of the blockage, a tiny hand-held equipment (probe) is pushed against your skin. This is a noninvasive, painless test.
- A venogram is sometimes required to detect blood clots in the smaller, more distant veins.
- This is a painful process that involves injecting X-ray dye or contrast material into a vein in the foot, then taking an X-ray of the dye's passage up the leg.
Disease Treatment:
Self-Care for Phlebitis Treatment at Home
Anti-inflammatory medications like aspirin or ibuprofen can assist with the discomfort and inflammation of superficial phlebitis. However, see your physician first.
When you walk more, your blood flow increases. This aids in the prevention of blood clots.
Compression stockings for the legs (knee or thigh high) enhance blood flow and may help alleviate discomfort and edoema.
Long durations of bed rest should be avoided. It has the potential to exacerbate your symptoms.
If you have deep vein thrombophlebitis, you may need to spend several days in the hospital for diagnosis and treatment to avoid complications.
Medical Assistance
You can probably go home if your examination reveals superficial phlebitis and you are otherwise healthy. Compression stockings and maybe anti-inflammatory drugs will be required to manage your discomfort. Additional treatment options include elevating the arm or leg and using warm compresses. Antibiotics are only required in a few circumstances.
You will need to take a blood thinner if you have a history of deep vein thrombophlebitis or if your phlebitis has moved to your deep veins (anticoagulant). Anticoagulant therapy normally lasts 3-6 months, or 3-12 months if it's the first time you've experienced DVT.
