ORBIT AND OCULOPLASTY Chalazion Incision & Curettage Surgery:

A surgical therapy for a chalazion is incision and curettage. Chalazion is a disorder in which the eyelid swells. It is normally painless and non-infectious, and it can affect both the upper and lower eyelids. Eyelid margin notching, trichiasis, lash loss, and unintentional globe damage are among complications of surgical chalazion drainage. Granulation tissue might prolapse into the conjunctiva or skin if chalazion drainage is not completed.

Under general anaesthesia, the incision and curettage are done.

In 7 to 10 days, the surgical incision should be healed. However, for at least two weeks, you should avoid any activity that might potentially harm your eye.

Disease Overview:

Chalazion

A chalazion is a red lump on the inside of your upper eyelid. It's also known as a meibomian cyst or an eyelid cyst. When an oil gland (called a meibomian) becomes clogged, it progressively develops. The chalazion may be unpleasant at first, but it normally goes away after a while.

Disease Signs and Symptoms:

  • A painless lump on the upper lid of your eyelid.
  • Irritation that makes your eyes wet.
  • Larger chalazia pushing on the eyeball cause blurred vision.

Disease Causes:

When anything plugs a tiny oil gland in the eyelid, chalazia might develop. These glands are responsible for keeping the eye moist. A clogged gland begins to accumulate oil and expands as a result. The fluid will eventually drain, and you may see a firm bump on your eyelid.

Disease Diagnosis:

Chalazia does not require any extra testing. Your doctor will most likely inquire about your symptoms, previous eye issues, and your overall health history. If you have chalazia on more than one occasion, your doctor may advise you to consult an ophthalmologist or optometrist.

Disease Treatment:

Warm compresses: Soak a clean washcloth in warm water and use it as a compress. For 15 minutes, place it over the afflicted eye.

Massage the eyelids gently several times a day. Use gentle to medium pressure and massage for a few minutes each day.

Wearing eye makeup while you have a chalazion is not a good idea.
