BIOGRAPHY

At the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City, Christopher E. Walsh, MD, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor and the Program Director for Hemophilia in the Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology. He earned his MD from Tulane University School of Medicine and his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Wake Forest School of Medicine. At the North Carolina Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill, he finished an internship and an internal medicine residency, and at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, he completed an internal medicine residency and a fellowship in haematology. Internal medicine and haematology are both board certified by Dr. Walsh. The HTCs in New England that are sponsored by ATHN are regionally directed by Dr. Walsh. Hemophilia of New York, the Hemophilia Federation of America, the American Thrombosis and Hemostasis Network (ATHN), and NHF MASAC are among the organisations on whose boards he serves. He specialises on fundamental research on gene therapy for blood disorders. He was a pioneer in the study of the Adeno-associated virus and its initial application as a vector for gene therapy. Also, he is working hard to create gene therapies for conditions like von Willebrand disease and haemophilia A and B.
