Dr. Jacob Varghese

Dr. Jacob Varghese received his MBBS in 1985 from Kasturba Manipal College Manipal, his D.Orth in 1988, his MS Ortho in 1989 from Kasturba Medical College Manipal, his Mch orth in 1995 from Liverpool University, and his Down Corning Upper Limb Fellowship in 1995. In addition, from 1990 to 1994, he received orthopaedic training in joint replacement and sports injuries at Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt orthopaedic hospital, North Staffordshire university hospital, Wrightington hospital Wigan, and Wrexham Maelor hospital. In 1995, he completed his upper limb fellowship at Wrightington NHS Trust in Wigan, UK. Primary research interests include joint preservation (Biologics and Mesenchymal Cells), sports injuries, and upper and lower limb joint replacement.His research interests include improved augmenting procedures in meniscal and cartilage repairs, ACL repairs and biological ACL reconstruction, and multi-ligament knee reconstructions. He is a pioneer in the field of Joint Replacement & Sports Injuries in Kerala, with over three decades of experience. The state's first dedicated adult reconstructive unit was established. In the year 2000, he was the first surgeon in the state to begin revision joint replacement and meniscal surgeries, as well as the first to undertake Arthroscopic surgery for shoulder, elbow, and wrist diseases. He has performed the most biological ACL (over 3000) and revision ACL and multi-ligament reconstructions in the state, and he is a pioneer in chondrocyte and mesenchymal stem cell implantation in cartilage injuries and biological injection for osteoarthritis (Sankine, SVF, LP- PRP and LR-PRP).
