BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Nigel Symss is a neurosurgeon from India with various international fellowships and 16 years of expertise in cranial and spinal surgery. He has served as a consultant neurosurgeon at reputed Chennai neurosurgical centres. He specialised in the transcallosal approach to colloid cysts and ventricular tumours in the brain, and he has several papers on the subject. He has conducted substantial research on hydrocephalus and shunt systems, and he now serves on the "Hydrocephalus Research World Record Ranking Committee." With a current focus on functional neurosurgery, he did a fellowship at Flinders Medical Centre in Australia. He has successfully done over 5000 neurosurgery surgeries in adults and children, including cranial and spinal. Dr. Nigel P Symss received his undergraduate education from Bangalore Medical College in 1993. He received his DNB in 2005 after completing five years of neurosurgical training at the reputed Post Graduate Institute of Neurological Surgery, VHS Medical Centre, Chennai. Until 2011, he worked as a consultant neurosurgeon at the same institute, perfecting complicated cranial and spinal surgical operations. With a passion for paediatric neurosurgery, he was given the Oi-Sami Fellowship at Jikei University School of Medicine in Japan in 2007, where he conducted considerable research on hydrocephalus and neuro endoscopy. He has several hydrocephalus-related articles in international journals to his name. He was given a one-year spinal fellowship at Adelaide's Flinders Medical Centre in 2011, where he received training in difficult spinal surgery, neuro navigation, and micro neurosurgery. With a growing interest in functional neurosurgery, he was awarded another fellowship in 2014 at the Flinders Medical Centre in Adelaide, where he received training in functional neurosurgery and micro neurosurgery and worked in the same neurosurgical unit for two and a half years using cutting-edge technology to treat complex brain tumours.
