BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Kongkham started his neurosurgery residency in Toronto in 2001 after completing medical school at the University of Toronto. He enrolled in the surgeon-scientist programme in 2004 and worked with Dr. James Rutka at the Hospital for Sick Children to complete his PhD work on the genomes and epigenetics of paediatric medulloblastoma. In 2011, he received his Ph.D. in Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology from the Toronto programme and was inducted as a Member of the Royal College of Doctors and Surgeons of Canada. Dr. Kongkham started a clinical fellowship in neurosurgical oncology at the MD Anderson Cancer Institute in July 2011 and was hired as a staff member in the Division of Neurosurgery at Toronto Western Hospital in 2012. He is currently an Associate Professor at The University of Toronto's Department of Surgery. The genomes and epigenetics of primary and metastatic adult brain cancers are the main topics of his research. The Arthur and Sonia Labatt Brain Tumor Research Centre at The Hospital for Sick Children houses his research facility.
