Dr. Rupal Shah

She is an Indian eye surgeon with expertise in cataract and laser refractive surgery. She was among the first surgeons in India to perform these novel procedures, beginning in 1994, making her one of the pioneers of Laser Refractive Surgery. She currently serves as the Group Medical Director of the largest network of laser refractive surgery clinics in Asia, New Vision Laser Centers-Center for Sight. She has been in practise for more than 20 years in Mumbai and Vadodara. She was a pioneer in the LASIK procedure, having carried out more than 50000 operations at an average of 2000 each over the previous 25 years. She has been closely involved in the creation of the SMILE refractive surgery procedure for the past 12 years. She was the third surgeon in the world to perform ReLEx, and the first to perform the procedure using a single incision, which is how it is done now. She has been involved in numerous ReLEx smile studies, including those for the US FDA's approval of the procedure.
