BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Sandeep Guleria is a Senior Consultant Surgeon in General Surgery, GI Surgery, and Transplantation at Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals in New Delhi. Dr. Guleria, a prominent alumni of University College of Medical Sciences (UCMS), began his career at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences' Department of Surgery (AIIMS). He received further training in the United Kingdom, where he eventually became a consultant surgeon in surgery and transplantation at St. James's University Hospital in Leeds, Europe's largest teaching hospital. He spent a significant portion of his career in academia at AIIMS' Department of Surgery. Kidney transplants, dialysis, renal transplants, and URS are among his areas of expertise (therapeutic).He is the vice president of the Indian Society of Organ Transplantation and a member of the Transplantation Society's ethical committee. Throughout his career, Dr. Guleria has pioneered several ground-breaking operations. He was part of the teams who performed India's first cadaveric renal transplant from a brain dead donor, as well as the country's first two successful kidney pancreas transplants. Through the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, Dr. Guleria has been actively involved in making changes to the Human Organ Transplant Act. Under his direction, the military academy established a laparoscopic donor nephrectomy programme. His contributions to medical research have been recognised with various accolades, including the Indian Medical Association's Exemplary Contribution Award in 2008.His work and attempts to establish unique and efficient surgical methods have been recognised in over 106 indexed articles.
