Dr Shirish Hiremath

"Shirish (M.S.) Hiremath, affectionately referred to as MSH, had a successful academic career. He earned his MD from Sasoon and his DM from Lokmanya Hospital Sion in Mumbai after receiving thorough cardiology training. He made a triumphant return to Pune in 1982. He began by building a solid cardiology foundation at Joshi Hospital in Erandwane. He started working in the cath lab in Ruby Hall, where he is currently the director of the cath lab and has been for many years. His very old friend Dr. Nitu Mandke founded Ruby Hall as the Center for Difficult Heart Procedures and frequently travelled to Pune to perform bypass surgeries. MSH had outstanding leadership as the Angioplasty boom took off starting in 1987. He is currently one of the best angioplasters in the nation and has enormous expertise in this area. This resulted in the National Intervention Council chairmanship (NIC 2005-06) MSH received numerous requests to provide live courses on angioplasty from all over the world. As a result, he popularised India and Ruby Hall. He won various honours from India and around the world, including Gentleman of the Year and Son of the Soil awards. The pinnacle of his developing career may have been being elected president of the Cardiological Society of India (CSI) in 2017. He has provided guidance to numerous young interventional cardiologists from India and beyond, enlightening aspiring medical professionals with his knowledge."
