Package Description
CORNEAL AND OCULAR SURFACE PROCEDURES-Bandage contact Lens:
The purpose of a bandage contact lens is to protect an injured or diseased cornea from the mechanical rubbing of blinking eyelids, allowing it to heal. The Bandage lens is frequently used to make the eye more comfortable. It's normally a soft lens, although that's not always the case.
It is used for a variety of applications in the treatment of corneal diseases. They're most typically used to replace a pressure patch for pain relief, but they also have a variety of other uses for corneal protection and drug administration. Although the relative risk of putting a contact lens to an eye that is already mechanically or physiologically damaged must be carefully considered, advances in contact lens materials have made safer and more practical therapeutic applications of contact lenses possible.
Unlike a traditional pressure patch, a bandage contact lens allows for the simultaneous application of drugs, the physician's observation of the eye without removing the bandage, the patient's useable vision in the affected eye, and much improved cosmesis.
Disease Overview:
Bullous keratopathy
Bullous keratopathy is an eye condition in which the cornea swells up in a blister-like manner (the clear layer in front of the iris and pupil). Bright light sensitivity, impaired vision, and the occasional sensation of a foreign object in the eye are all symptoms.
Disease Signs and Symptoms:
Bullous keratopathy is a condition in which the cornea swells up in a blister-like manner (the clear layer in front of the iris and pupil). Bright light sensitivity, blurred vision, and the sensation of a foreign object in the eye are some of the symptoms.
Disease Causes:
Bullous keratopathy is characterised by corneal edoema produced by the inability of the corneal endothelium to maintain the cornea's typically dehydrated condition. Fuchs corneal endothelial dystrophy or corneal endothelial trauma are the most common causes.
Disease Diagnosis:
The look of the person's cornea helps doctors diagnose bullous keratopathy. Eye drops to remove excess fluid from the cornea, medicines to reduce eye pressure, and corneal transplants are some of the options for treatment.
Disease Treatment:
An ophthalmologist (a medical specialist who specialises in the examination and treatment—surgical and nonsurgical—of eye problems) treats bullous keratopathy. To extract the excess fluid from the cornea, salty eye drops (hypertonic saline) and salty ointments (hypertonic sodium chloride) are utilised.
