Package Description
CORNEAL AND OCULAR SURFACE PROCEDURES-Conjunctival wound repair/exploration
Conjunctival injury is a common eye emergency that requires immediate medical attention. After confirming conjunctival laceration, the conjunctiva should be checked for chemosis, subconjunctival bleeding, emphysema, foreign items, and abrasions.
The majority of conjunctival lacerations heal without the need for surgery. Larger conjunctival lacerations can be healed first, then treated with antibiotics applied topically. In the case of a paediatric patient, examination and repair may necessitate sedation or general anaesthesia.
Disease Overview:
Conjuctival wound
Conjunctival injury is a frequent eye emergency that requires immediate medical attention. After confirming conjunctival laceration, the conjunctiva should be checked for chemosis, subconjunctival bleeding, emphysema, foreign items, and abrasions.
Disease Signs and Symptoms:
The conjunctiva is damaged by scarring, which makes it less able to hold tears and protecting mucus. Patients may experience grittiness, burning, and, in extreme cases, impaired vision as a result of dry eye symptoms.
Disease Causes:
The majority of conjunctival foreign bodies originate as a result of explosive trauma. Foreign body trauma is a common cause of conjunctival lacerations. Inadvertent fingernail damage is a common cause, typically caused by tiny children accidentally hitting caregivers or adults during a sporting game.
Disease Diagnosis:
Conjunctival injury is a frequent eye emergency that requires immediate medical attention. After confirming conjunctival laceration, the conjunctiva should be checked for chemosis, subconjunctival bleeding, emphysema, foreign items, and abrasions.
Disease Treatment:
Irritant or traumatic conjunctivitis usually just needs symptomatic therapy, such as topical lubricants, and clears up in 24 hours. To minimise sight-threatening consequences, systemic or topical glucocorticoids should only be taken under the supervision of a doctor.
The majority of conjunctival lacerations heal without the need for surgery. Larger conjunctival lacerations can be healed first, then treated with antibiotics applied topically. In the case of a paediatric patient, examination and repair may necessitate sedation or general anaesthesia.
