Package Description
CORNEAL AND OCULAR SURFACE PROCEDURES- Corneal Scraping and Culture:
A process for collecting cells from your eye's surface. A corneal scrape, also known as a corneal culture, is performed to determine whether your eye has a bacterial or fungal infection. Please contact us via email.
Scarring or damage to the cornea's surface layer, which can cause pain and poor vision, may necessitate corneal surface layer removal. Recurrent corneal erosions, band keratopathy, and Salzmann's nodular degeneration are all prevalent causes of scarring or injury to the cornea.
Corneal cultures can assist you figure out what kind of corneal ulcer you're dealing with and customise your treatment accordingly.
Disease Overview:
Corneal ulcer
A corneal ulcer is a defect in the epithelial layer of the cornea with underlying inflammation caused by bacteria, fungus, viruses, or Acanthamoeba. Mechanical stress or nutritional inadequacies can trigger it, and unchecked inflammation can lead to corneal necrosis.
Disease Signs and Symptoms:
- Redness.
- There is a lot of discomfort.
- You get the sensation that something is in your eye.
- Tears.
- Your eye may be filled with pus or a thick discharge.
- Vision is hazy.
- When exposed to strong lighting, it causes pain.
- Eyelids swollen
Disease Causes:
- Infections with bacteria, viruses, fungus, or parasites are the most prevalent causes of corneal ulcers.
- Contact lens wearers can get Acanthamoeba keratitis.
- After a corneal injury involving plant material, fungal keratitis might develop.
- Herpes simplex keratitis is a dangerous virus.
Disease Diagnosis:
During an eye exam, an eye doctor can detect corneal ulcers. A fluorescein eye stain is one technique used to look for a corneal ulcer. An eye doctor applies a drop of orange dye to a tiny piece of blotting paper for this test.
Disease Treatment:
Medications
Antibiotic, antiviral, or antifungal eye drops will most likely be prescribed depending on the aetiology of your ulcer. For many days, you may need to use them as frequently as once per hour.
Oral painkillers or drops to expand (dilate) your pupil may be prescribed by your doctor to alleviate pain.
Surgery
If treatments don't work or the ulcer is severe, a corneal transplant may be necessary. Your cornea is removed and replaced with a healthy cornea from another individual by your doctor.
