Endopyelotomy:

Endopyelotomy is a procedure that involves putting tiny devices up through the urinary system or down through the skin and into the kidney to expand the renal pelvis. The tools are used to cut or burn away the tissue that is creating the obstruction, or to utilise a laser to remove it.

Disease Overview:

An obstruction of the ureteropelvic junction (UPJ) is described as a blockage of urine flow from the renal pelvis to the proximal ureter. Urologists, both adult and paediatric, regularly see patients with this problem.

Disease Signs and Symptoms:

  • Back or flank discomfort is common.
  • Urine with blood in it (hematuria)
  • An abdominal lump (abdominal mass)
  • Infection of the kidneys.
  • Infants with stunted development (failure to thrive)
  • Infection of the urinary system, generally accompanied by a fever.
  • Vomiting.

Disease Causes:

UPJ Obstructions: Causes and Risk Factors

Scar tissue, anomalies in muscles behind the scar tissue, kidney stones, infection, or past treatments or operations for a blockage are the most common causes of UPJ in older children and adults.

Disease Diagnosis:

The problem can also be caused by a blood artery that is positioned incorrectly across the ureter. Urinary blockage in children is most commonly caused by a UPJ obstruction. Prenatal ultrasound tests are increasingly regularly used to diagnose it. In other circumstances, the problem isn't discovered until after the baby is born.

Disease Treatment:

Open surgery to cut out the scarring and reconnect the ureter to the kidney has been the usual therapy for ureteropelvic junction occlusion. Newer, less intrusive therapeutic methods have been developed in recent years.
