Package Description
Phalloplasty or Penile Enlargement or Penile Lengthening:
A phalloplasty is a multi-stage treatment that may entail the formation of the penis, stretching the urethra so you can stand to urinate, constructing the tip (glans) of the penis, creation of the scrotum, removal of the vagina, and the placement of erectile and testicular implants.
A phalloplasty results in a bigger penis than a metoidioplasty. This neopenis, on the other hand, cannot stand on its own. A person can receive a penile implant after a time of rehabilitation. They may be able to get and sustain erections as well as have penetrative intercourse as a result of this.
At the time of surgery, you must be between the ages of 18 and 35. A minimum of 12 months of confirming hormone therapy is necessary.
Disease Overview:
Micro Penis
Micropenis is a medical name for a problem that is typically identified during a neonatal checkup. Micropenis, as the name implies, is a penis that is unusually tiny yet has a normal structure. Hormonal or genetic disorders cause the illness.
What you should know about a micropenis:
- Although some men assume they have a micropenis, this is most certainly not the case. It's really uncommon.
- The stretched penile length (SPL) of a micropenis is less than 2.5 standard deviations (SD) below the male's age mean.
- Micropenis is defined as an SPL of 3 2/3 inches or less in males. Adult guys have an average SPL of 5.25 inches.
- The disease might be influenced by genetics (family history).
- Although there is no treatment for micropenis, hormone therapy can be used to accelerate penile development in youngsters.
Disease Signs and Symptoms:
Micropenis is defined as a penis that is smaller than 1.9 cm (0.75 inches) in length when a child is born. A newborn's extended penile length is 3.5 cm on average (1.4 inches).
If the length of your penis is less than 2.5 standard deviations below the mean, you have micropenis. Micropenis is characterised as a penis that is 3 2/3 inches or less in length in mature males.
Micropenis can be associated with other health issues such as hormone imbalances or congenital (existing at birth) diseases, which can produce a wide range of symptoms. The symptoms your kid experiences will be determined by the aetiology of the micropenis.
Disease Causes:
Micropenis is most commonly caused by foetal testosterone insufficiency, which can be caused by a number of factors. Hypogonadotropic hypogonadism is the most frequent.
Hypogonadotropic hypogonadism is a disorder in which the hypothalamus (the portion of the brain that governs the autonomous nerve system and pituitary) fails to emit hormones that stimulate the testicles to generate hormones (testosterone) required for proper maturation and reproduction.
Micropenis can also be seen in people who have genetic abnormalities that cause additional problems. It's also possible that the problem is idiopathic (have an unknown cause).
Disease Diagnosis:
A physical examination is used to diagnose micropenis. Micropenis is identified by measuring penile length and is most commonly encountered in infancy or early childhood.
If micropenis is discovered in childhood, the chances of it being treated are better. A real micropenis can be diagnosed by expanding the penis fully and measuring it using a ruler, calliper, or a modified 10 ml disposable syringe. The figure is compared to the boy's age-appropriate size range.
Following that, a diagnostic examination is performed to identify what type of therapy should be employed to encourage penis growth.
Disease Treatment:
Testosterone therapy
Micropenis treatment varies depending on the source of the illness, and each kid is unique. Treatment should begin as early as infancy or very early childhood.
A short course of testosterone is the first therapy. This procedure assesses the penis' capacity to react to growth hormone. Testosterone might be injected or administered as a gel or ointment to the affected region. Many studies demonstrate that testosterone therapy improves penile development in many newborns, although it is unknown if this growth persists into puberty and maturity.
If the testosterone treatment fails to lengthen the penis, other hormonal therapies may be tried.
Surgery
When medical therapy for micropenis fail, surgery may be considered. For younger children, surgical rebuilding (phalloplasty) of the micropenis is complex and hazardous, but it is worth considering. Surgery is more prevalent in young adults and adults.
If you're a guy considering micropenis surgery, be sure you fully grasp the risks and advantages of the procedure for your specific circumstance.
Parents should be informed about all alternatives and possible results by their primary care physicians, paediatric endocrinologists, and, if required, surgeons.
