Lipoma Under GA

Depending on the size and location of the tumour, lipoma excision may be done under general anaesthetic or sedation. After injecting local anaesthesia (numbing medicine) into the region, the surgeon will make an incision on the skin above or around the lipoma and remove the tumour.

Lipoma

A lipoma is a fatty tumor located just below the skin. It isn't cancer and is usually harmless. A lipoma is a slow-growing, fatty lump that's most often situated between your skin and the underlying muscle layer. A lipoma, which feels doughy and usually isn't tender, moves readily with slight finger pressure.

Signs and Symptoms

Lipomas can develop in any part of the body. Typically, they are:

• Located slightly beneath the surface. The neck, shoulders, back, belly, arms, and thighs are all frequent places for them to appear.
• To the touch, it's soft and doughy. With a little finger pressure, they also move readily.
• In general, they're small. Lipomas usually have a diameter of less than 2 inches (5 cm), however they can become larger.
• It may be excruciating at times. Lipomas can be unpleasant if they grow - large enough to impinge on adjacent nerves or include a large number of blood vessels.

Disease Causes:

The exact aetiology of lipomas is unknown. Because they tend to run in families, genetic factors are almost certainly involved in their development.

Factors that are at risk:

• The following variables may increase your chance of having a lipoma:
• Between the ages of 40 and 60. Lipomas can affect anyone at any age, although they are most frequent in this age range.
• Genetics. Lipomas are more likely to run in families.

Your doctor may use the following tests to determine if you have a lipoma:

Physical examination

The removal of a tissue sample (biopsy) for laboratory testing.

If the lipoma is big, has odd characteristics, or appears to be deeper than the fatty tissue, an X-ray or other imaging test, such as an MRI or CT scan, is recommended.

There's a slim possibility that a lump that looks like a lipoma is actually liposarcoma, a kind of cancer. Liposarcomas are malignant tumours that develop quickly, don't migrate under the skin, and are frequently painful. If your doctor suspects liposarcoma, he or she will likely order a biopsy, an MRI, or a CT scan.

Disease Treatment:

A lipoma normally does not require treatment. If the lipoma causes you discomfort, is uncomfortable, or is developing, your doctor may advise you to get it removed. Treatments for lipoma include:

Surgical removal is required. The majority of lipomas are surgically eliminated by cutting them out. After removal, recurrences are unlikely. Scarring and bruising are two possible adverse effects. Minimal excision extraction is a procedure that may result in reduced scarring.

Liposuction. To remove the fatty mass, a needle and a big syringe are used.
