Package Description
Procedure Description:
Inguinal Hernia Repair:
There are two ways to conduct an inguinal hernia repair:
1- open surgery: a single cut is made to allow the surgeon to push the mass back into the abdomen.
2- laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery - a less intrusive, but more complex, procedure in which multiple smaller cuts are made, allowing the physician to repair the hernia with various special devices.
Disease Overview:
An inguinal hernia occurs when tissue, such as part of the intestine, protrudes through a weak spot in the abdominal muscles. The resulting bulge can be painful, especially when you cough, bend over or lift a heavy object. However, many hernias do not cause pain. An inguinal hernia isn't necessarily dangerous.
Disease Signs and Symptoms:
Inguinal hernia signs and symptoms include:
1- A bulge in the area on either side of your pubic bone, which becomes more obvious when you're upright, especially if you cough or strain.
2- A burning or aching sensation at the bulge.
3- Pain or discomfort in your groin, especially when bending over, coughing or lifting.
Disease Causes:
Causes an inguinal hernia can be listed as following:
1- fluid or pressure in the abdomen.
2- heavy lifting, such as weightlifting.
3- repetitive straining during urination or bowel movements.
4- obesity.
5- chronic cough.
6- pregnancy.
Disease Diagnosis:
Your doctor will look for a protrusion in the groin area. Standing and coughing might make a hernia more visible, so you'll probably be asked to stand and cough or strain. If the diagnosis is not clear, your doctor may prescribe an imaging test such as an abdominal ultrasound, CT scan, or MRI.
Disease treatment:
Surgery is the only way to fix an inguinal hernia. The doctor will push the bulging tissue back inside and strengthen your abdominal wall with stitches and perhaps mesh. They might be able to do this through a small cut in your belly using a special tool, a procedure called laparoscopy.
Herniorraphy - Inguinal - Unilateral: Open hernia repair is where an incision, or cut, is made in the groin. The hernia “sac” containing the bulging intestine is identified. The surgeon then pushes the hernia back into the abdomen and strengthens the abdominal wall with stitches or synthetic mesh
