Prof. Dr. Surya Bhan

Dr. Surya Bhan is a world-renowned joint replacement surgeon who has received several awards. Dr. Bhan had the privilege and distinction of treating the nation's President, Vice-Presidents, and four Prime Ministers throughout the course of his 46-year career. He is recognised with developing the country's first Frozen Bone Bank facility at AlIMS and was the first to pioneer the most current procedures of AO methods of fracture treatment, arthroscopy, and arthroplasty in Delhi. Over the years, he has trained countless postgraduates, medical students, and surgeons and has performed over 11000 joint replacement procedures, including total hip and knee replacements, primary and revision total joint surgeries. Dr. Bhan's research studies and work have been published in 50 international and 102 national journals, and he continues to serve as a faculty and visiting professor at a number of educational institutions, medical facilities, and conferences both in the United States and abroad. He has written seven volumes on orthopaedics, and his research has been cited in some of the most prestigious textbooks on the field. During his time at AlIMS, the Department of Orthopaedics was recognised by THE WEEK and INDIA TODAY as the top department in India in 2004, 2005, and 2006. He has made a significant and excellent contribution to the area of orthopaedics.
