Package Description
Hypospadias Surgery Two Stage
Surgery to fix a congenital abnormality in the entrance of the penis is known as hypospadias correction. The urethra (the tube that transports pee from the bladder to the outer world) does not finish at the penis.
Some types of hypospadias are so slight that they don't necessitate surgery. However, surgery to realign the urethral opening and, if necessary, straighten the shaft of the penis is frequently required. Between the ages of 6 and 12 months, surgery is generally performed.
Disease Overview:
Anterior hypospadias
Hypospadias affects the male phallus and is a frequent congenital disorder. It is distinguished by an aberrant opening of the urethra on the ventral part of the penis, as well as ventral phallus curvature (chordee).
Hypospadias is a birth anomaly (congenital disorder) in which the urethra opens on the underside rather than the tip of the penis. The urethra is the channel via which urine departs your body after draining from your bladder.
Hypospadias is a common condition that does not make care for your baby harder. The typical look of your child's penis is frequently restored after surgery. Most males can have normal urination and reproduction after successfully treating hypospadias.
Disease Signs and Symptoms:
In hypospadias, the urethral opening is on the bottom of the penis rather than at the tip. The entrance of the urethra is usually found within the head of the penis. The entrance occurs more seldom at the centre or at the base of the penis. The entrance is almost never in or under the scrotum.
Hypospadias can cause the following signs and symptoms:
- The urethra is opened somewhere else than the tip of the penis.
- The penis has a downward curvature (chordee)
- Because just the upper half of the penis is covered by foreskin, the penis appears hooded.
- Urination spraying that isn't usual
Disease Causes:
Hypospadias is a condition that is present at birth (congenital). Certain hormones drive the growth of the urethra and foreskin in a male foetus as the penis grows. This occurs when these hormones' actions are disrupted, leading the urethra to grow improperly. It is caused by a variety of factors, the majority of which are unknown. Hypospadias can be inherited, but the environment can also play a role.
Risk Factors
Although the aetiology of hypospadias is largely unclear, the following variables may be involved:
- History of the family. Infants with a family history of hypospadias are more likely to have this problem.
- Genetics. Disruption of the hormones that encourage the creation of the male genitals may be caused by certain gene mutations.
- Maternal age is more than 35. According to several studies, baby males delivered to women over the age of 35 have a higher incidence of hypospadias.
- During pregnancy, there is a risk of exposure to some chemicals. There is some suggestion that hypospadias is linked to a mother's exposure to specific hormones or molecules like as pesticides or industrial toxins, but further research is needed to establish this.
Disease Diagnosis
A physical check by your child's physician can identify hypospadias. He or she will most likely recommend you to a paediatric urologist (a surgeon who specialises in genital and urinary disorders) for additional assessment. Specialty medical clinics can assist you in evaluating your alternatives and providing skilled treatment.
When the urethra opens abnormally and the testicles cannot be touched on examination, it might be difficult to tell if the genitals are male or female (ambiguous genitalia). Further examination with a multidisciplinary team is required in this scenario.
Disease Treatment:
Some types of hypospadias are so slight that they don't necessitate surgery. However, surgery to realign the urethral opening and, if necessary, straighten the shaft of the penis is frequently required. Between the ages of 6 and 12 months, surgery is generally performed.
Circumcision should not be performed if the penis appears abnormal. Circumcision should be done if hypospadias is discovered during the operation. In any scenario, a paediatric urologist should be consulted.
Procedure Most types of hypospadias may be treated with a single outpatient surgery. Some types of hypospadias can need many surgeries to fix the problem.
When the urethral entrance is towards the base of the penis, the surgeon may need to reconstruct the urinary channel in the proper position with tissue grafts from the foreskin or the inside of the mouth, rectifying the hypospadias.
