Package Description
Percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA):
PTCA is used to clear plaque from coronary (heart) arteries that have become constricted or obstructed (atherosclerosis).
PTCA, or percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty, is a frequent abbreviation for percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty. A catheter is put into an artery, most often in the groyne, although it can also be in the arm or wrist. The catheter is inserted into the heart, and a series of x-ray images (coronary angiography) are obtained to clearly see the restricted heart arteries. Then a balloon-tipped catheter is inserted into the restricted coronary artery and progressed to the heart. The balloon is inflated and deflated numerous times inside the artery, squeezing the plaque against the arterial wall and expanding the vessel to enhance blood flow.
The X-rays are repeated, and the catheters are withdrawn if the artery has been effectively re-opened. While the patient lies peacefully, pressure is administered to the puncture site to halt bleeding.
Disease Treatment:
Lifestyle modifications, including as eating a balanced diet and exercising, are the first line of defence against atherosclerosis, and they may be all you need. However, medicines or surgical treatments may be required in rare cases.
Surgical or non-surgical techniques
A more aggressive approach to treating atherosclerosis is sometimes required. Your doctor may consider one of the following surgical treatments if you have significant symptoms or a blockage:
Stent implantation and angioplasty. Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is a treatment that helps unblock a clogged or blocked artery. A catheter is inserted into the affected artery by your doctor. A second catheter is inserted through the first catheter to the obstruction, with a deflated balloon on its tip.
The balloon is inflated by your doctor, which widens the artery. To aid with the opening of the artery, a mesh tube (stent) is frequently left in place.
Endarterectomy. Plaque accumulation on the walls of a restricted artery may require surgical removal. A carotid endarterectomy is an operation that involves the removal of arteries in the neck (the carotid arteries).
Fibrinolytic therapy is the treatment of fibrinolysis. If a blood clot is blocking an artery, your doctor may use a clot-dissolving medicine to break it apart.
Bypass surgery for the coronary arteries. Your doctor uses a healthy blood vessel from another region of the body to build a bypass around the blocked artery, diverting blood flow. A graft consisting of synthetic material is sometimes used as a bypass.
