VITREO RETINAL PROCEDURES ROP laser:
Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is a common cause of vision loss in children that is generally avoidable. Laser photocoagulation of the non-vascularized retina is the gold standard in ROP therapy.
During a visit by a retina specialist or paediatric ophthalmologist, this examination is performed inside the newborn unit or hospital. The pupils of the eye are dilated with drops, and the retina is inspected for symptoms of ROP using an indirect ophthalmoscope.
Disease Overview:
Visual impairment in children
No vision – blindness – to extremely low vision – unable to perceive certain colours – are all examples of visual impairment. Vision loss may strike anybody at any age. Some illnesses may cause vision issues for a brief period of time, but most vision abnormalities in children persist throughout their lives.
Disease Signs and Symptoms:
Playing, talking, and communicating with other children are all examples of behavioural and social difficulties [5-10]. Sitting and walking difficulties, as well as falling and clumsiness.
Disease Causes:
Albinism and retinitis pigmentosa are hereditary disorders that affect the portions of the brain that govern vision (cortical vision impairment). Illnesses that affect certain very preterm newborns or babies that have specific birth issues.
Disease Diagnosis:
- By the age of one month, the kid is unable to follow an object moving in front of his eyes.
- By the age of three months, the youngster is unable to reach for toys or objects placed in front of him.

- Either the eyes are inflamed or have a yellow discharge, or the tears are constantly flowing.
Disease Treatment:
Optical aids such as eyeglasses, contact lenses, and eye drops or other medications may be available. Surgery may be necessary in some circumstances. Cataracts, for example, are frequently treated by removing the clouded lens and replacing it with an intraocular lens (an artificial plastic lens that requires no special care and restores vision).
