Established in 1988, the Saudi German Hospitals Group is the largest private healthcare organisation in the MENA (Middle East & North Africa) region. The organisation is a multifaceted healthcare provider that is regarded as a healthcare developer rather than just an operator. In collaboration with numerous international institutions, it builds its own hospitals and runs them. Every year, SGH Group opens a new hospital. With 10 hospitals currently operating and 12 additional projects in various stages of development, the organisation is rapidly growing at a rate of 16% annually. One of the main tertiary care hospitals in Cairo and Egypt, SGH-Cairo is the first hospital of the group to be situated in Africa. Two years after its founding, in 2018, it was granted the esteemed JCI accreditation. Canada has also granted it accreditation in recognition of its superior quality care and services.
Additionally, it was awarded the ISO 22000:2005 Swiss Certification for food safety management systems.
In addition, it was awarded the Temos International Healthcare Accreditation for its superiority in international patient care and excellence in medical tourism. It holds this accreditation for the first time in Africa.

At a September 2014 Special Meeting on Unlocking Resources for Regional Development in Istanbul, the World Economic Forum named and recognized Saudi German Hospitals Group as a Global Growth Company 2014.
SGH Group took home two honors from Arab Health 2014: the Orthopedic Department of SGH Jeddah took home the Excellence in Surgery Services Award, and the Outstanding Contribution of an Individual to the Middle East Healthcare Industry Award.
