Asst Prof Chao Tar Toong Victor

Senior Consultant of the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the National Heart Centre Singapore, Assistant Professor Victor Chao. From the National University of Singapore, he earned his bachelor's degree in medicine and surgery in 1993. Since 1999, he has been a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh, UK. Since 2004, he has also been a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons' cardiothoracic division. Since 2005, he has also been a fellow of the Academy of Medicine in Singapore. In 2005–2006 at St. Vincent's Hospital in Melbourne, Australia, and in 2006–2008 at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation Heart & Vascular Institute in Ohio, Asst. Prof. Chao finished his fellowship in adult cardiac surgery. He completed a 1-year Aortic and Endovascular Fellowship, a 6-month Heart Failure, Assist Device, and Transplant Fellowship, as well as training in re-operative cardiac surgery and transcatheter aortic valve implantation while working at the Cleveland Clinic. Additionally, he has taken part in brief fellowships at the University of California San Diego and the Papworth Hospital in Cambridge, UK, for pulmonary endarterectomy for chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension, and Guys St Thomas' Hospital in London in 2013 for transcatheter aortic valve implantation (CTEPH). At the University of Melbourne in Australia, he took part in the Masters in Surgical Education programme, from which he graduated in 2019 with First Class Honors. He has been the administrative programme director for the Singapore Integrated Cardiothoracic Surgery Residency Program since 2020. He has been the programme director of the SingHealth Cardiothoracic Residency Program since 2013.
