Dr Benjamin Chuah

Previously a consultant in the Department of Haematology-Oncology at the National Cancer Institute Singapore, National University Hospital, Dr. Benjamin Chuah is a Senior Consultant Medical Oncologist at the OncoCare Cancer Centre. After receiving his medical degree from Trinity College Dublin in 1998 and winning the Arthur Ball Prize for Second Place and the Professor Prize in Physics (Surgery), Dr. Chuah returned to Singapore and became a member of the Royal College of Physicians of the UK in 2002. Dr. Benjamin Chuah, also known to patients as Dr. Ben Chuah, was actively involved in post-graduate teaching and research before he entered private practise. He was a member of the Core Faculty for the Residency Program and the Director for Postgraduate Medical Education (Medical Oncology) (Internal Medicine). He received the 2011 National University Hospital Postgraduate Teaching Excellence Award in recognition of his contributions. Gastrointestinal malignancies, such as oesophageal, gastric, biliary tract, pancreatic, liver (hepatocellular carcinoma), neuroendocrine tumours, and colorectal cancers, are Dr. Ben Chuah's area of expertise. He studies the lack of somatic mutations in the VEGFR-2 tyrosine kinase domain in hepatocellular carcinoma, renal cell carcinoma (kidney cancer) with bony metastases, and the use of the chemotherapy drug docetaxel (Taxotere) with or without ketoconazole in breast cancer. He is a clinical cancer specialist and researcher.
