Dr Chan Beng Kuen

He worked as the Senior Consultant at the Changi Sports Medicine Centre and the Deputy Head of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Changi General Hospital before going into private practise. Dr. Chan is a visiting senior lecturer at Nanyang Technological University's Master of Science programme and a clinical lecturer at the National University of Singapore's Faculty of Medicine (Biomedical Engineering). He served as the chairman of the arthroscopic shoulder and elbow course at the 2002 Asia Pacific Orthopaedic Society Medicine meeting as well as the course director of the shoulder and wrist workshop at the 2004 Annual Scientific Meeting. Dr. Chan is a pioneer in the treatment of scapulothoracic pain using arthroscopy in Singapore and specialises in minimally invasive techniques for the upper limbs that reduce post-operative discomfort, morbidity, and length of hospital stay. His own series of over 500 arthroscopic shoulder treatments includes lateral clavicle resection, capsulotomy for frozen shoulders, rotator cuff repair, subacromial decompression, and arthroscopic shoulder stabilisation. His other clinical specialisations include treating difficult distal radius fractures, fracture-dislocations around the shoulder, elbow, and wrist, fractures/nonunion of the clavicle, tennis elbow surgery, and nerve entrapment release. In addition, he does open and arthroscopic operations for knee degenerative diseases and sports injuries.
