Dr Chew Tec Hock Jeffrey

Singapore's Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, and Parkway East Hospital all employ orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Jeffrey Chew. His areas of expertise include sports injuries, arthritis, and hip and knee replacements. He is one of Southeast Asia's most prevalent users of robotic joint replacement. At the National University of Singapore (NUS), Dr. Chew earned his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degrees in 1989. Following basic training, he received the Health Manpower Development Programme (HMDP) award in 1994, which allowed him to join the Royal Colleges of Surgeons of Glasgow and Edinburgh in the UK. In the same year, he graduated from NUS with a Master of Medicine in surgery. Dr. Chew was awarded a number of scholarships in 1995 to work at the Mayo Clinic Biomechanics Laboratory in Minnesota, USA, where he studied the patellofemoral knee joint's biomechanics. He presented his work at the American Knee Society as a finalist for the John Insall award. In 1998, he received his second HMDP award, which enabled him to complete a one-year clinical fellowship in the Adult Reconstructive Division of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Mayo Clinic. Previously, Dr. Chew worked as a consultant in the Tan Tock Seng Hospital's Department of Orthopaedic Surgery (TTSH). His various positions during this time include chairman of the scientific subcommittee for the second National Healthcare Group annual scientific meeting in 2003 and secretary of the organising committee for the Singapore Orthopaedic Association meeting in 2001.
