BIOGRAPHY

After completing his cardiothoracic surgery residency at the Middlesex Hospital in London, Dr. Sriram Shankar worked at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, the Harefield Hospital in Uxbridge, and the Brompton Hospital in London. Dr. Shankar received the First Prize of Honor in Microbiology in 1980 as well as the Dr. Rama Rao Gold Medal in Anatomy in 1978. In September 1990, Dr. Shankar relocated to Singapore, but in 1995 he went back to England to pursue more specialisation. He spent a year working with Drs. B Sethia and William J. Brawn, FRCS, at the Children's Hospital of Birmingham during this time. At the KK Women's and Children's Hospital, where he served as Head of Services until March 2009, Dr. Shankar has since assisted in the creation of the Paediatric Cardiothoracic service. Dr. Shankar has performed over 1000 off-pump surgeries for patients with Coronary Artery Disease, giving him vast experience in adult cardiac surgery. He has extensive experience treating patients with aortic disease, including aneurysm surgery and surgery for acute type 1 aortic dissection, and is qualified to do valve restorative surgeries on both children and adults.
