BIOGRAPHY

Ben is a consultant urological surgeon with a focus on minimally invasive prostate disease treatments. He is the director of the robotic fellowship and the Guy's & St Thomas' MDM urology cancer and clinical robotics lead. Awarded the renowned Rowan Nicks Fellowship by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, he completed his training at Guy's and St. Thomas' Hospitals, The Royal Marsden Hospital, and the Royal Melbourne Hospital under the tutelage of Professor Tony Costello. He will get the BAUS Golden Cystoscope in 2019 for his achievements to British urology within ten years of being appointed as a consultant. He is now the chairman of the British Association of Urology's (BAUS) Oncology Section. In 2002, he conducted the first randomized experiment of telerobotics between Guy's and Johns Hopkins Hospitals after learning both laparoscopic and robotic surgery techniques. This was a section of his thesis for his master's degree in surgery on robotic surgery and telemedicine. With over 230 peer-reviewed papers, three books, and 25 book chapters in robotic and minimally invasive urology methods, Ben is an associate editor of the BJUI. He has conducted over 1100 robotic upper tract surgeries, including 560 robotic partial nephrectomies, over 1000 robotic radical prostatectomies, and over 900 holmium laser prostatectomy (HoLEP) procedures. The top volume surgeon in the UK for robotic partial nephrectomy and upper tract robotics, he also assisted in the development of the robotic cystectomy and robotic partial nephrectomy programs at Guy's Hospital.
