Dr. Saumitra Ray is one of India's most renowned cardiologists, internationally regarded for his academic and clinical achievements both in India and abroad. He never came in second place in any of his exams in school, college, or university. In 1982, he won first place in the Joint Entrance Examination for medical school. He travelled to the United Kingdom for additional studies after receiving his MBBS and MD from Calcutta Medical College. He began cardiology training at the Royal London Hospital Trust after completing the MRCP. He mastered noninvasive and invasive cardiac treatments while also having extensive clinical and preventative cardiology experience. After returning to India, he established his cardiac clinic and became affiliated with the AMRI group of hospitals. He also became a Professor at the Vivekananda Institute of Medical Sciences, which is part of the West Bengal Health University. Apart from his therapeutic practise, he is now a well-known academic personality in India, having been invited to most national and international conferences as a guest speaker and debater. He is also the founder and president of the Calcutta Cardiology Foundation, a non-profit organisation that promotes health education among the general population and clinicians.
