Songkhla Hospital | Songkhla , Thailand

Profile (Overview)

One of the two primary hospitals in Songkhla Province, Thailand, run by the Ministry of Public Health is Songkhla Hospital; the other is the bigger Hatyai Hospital. It is categorised as a general hospital by the Ministry of Public Health. The Princess of Naradhiwas University's faculty of medicine receives training at the CPIRD Medical Education Center. It is a teaching hospital that is associated with Prince of Songkla University's school of medicine. A hospital was planned and built in the heart of Songkhla City between 1921 and 1924 at the initiative of Prince Yugala Dighambara, the viceroy of the South at the time. Prince Mahidol Adulyadej officially opened the Songkhlaphayaban on June 26, 1925. The hospital was renamed Songkhla City Municipal Hospital in 1935 as operations were moved to Songkhla City Municipality. Operations were again entrusted to the Ministry of Public Health in 1952, and the hospital underwent a significant expansion. However, the hospital board looked for a new site for the hospital because of the restricted area in the city centre. A deal was reached with the Royal Thai Army Fourth Army Area and the Songkhla Provincial Administration in 1985 as part of the Sixth National Social and Economic Development Plan to transfer a plot of land near the southern end of the Tinsulanonda Bridge for the construction of the new hospital. The new hospital opened as Songkhla Hospital on December 31 after construction, which began in April 1995 and was finished in December of that same year.
