BIOGRAPHY

Now serving as both director of nephrology and professor of medicine at the McGill University Health Centre in Montreal, Canada, Dr. Cybulsky is a clinician-scientist. The Catherine McLaughlin Hakim Chair is in his hands. Dr. Cybulsky did his clinical and research training in nephrology at Boston University after earning his MD from the University of Toronto. Since 1988, he has been a busy researcher at McGill University. The goal of Dr. Cybulsky's research is to comprehend the mechanisms underlying renal cell damage. In order to understand the pathophysiology of human glomerular illnesses, particularly those affecting the podocyte, he uses experimental animal models as well as molecular, biochemical, and cell imaging techniques. In Dr. Cybulsky's research, the complement system, protein kinases, phospholipases, and stress proteins have all been identified as mediators of podocyte injury. Dr. Cybulsky's study aims to develop diagnostic bioassays and mechanism-based therapeutics for human glomerular disorders by thoroughly understanding the pathophysiology of podocyte injury.
