Dr Shashidhar Baikunje

Dr. Shashidhar Baikunje joined Sengkang General Hospital in 2016 after being recruited as a consultant nephrologist at Singapore General Hospital in 2015. In 2017, he received a promotion to Senior Consultant, and in 2018, he was appointed head of the renal service. Since the beginning, he has contributed to the establishment of the renal services at Sengkang General Hospital. He previously held the positions of Head of the Nephrology Department at K. S. Hedge Hospital, Consultant Physician and Nephrologist at Glan Clwyd Hospital in Rhyl, UK, Associate Professor of Medicine at Nitte University in Mangalore, India, where he was involved in the establishment of the renal and transplant service, and Consultant Physician and Nephrologist at Nitte University. In 1994, Dr. Baikunje graduated from Bangalore University in India with a medical degree. He travelled to the UK after completing his postgraduate degree in medicine at South Gujarat University, where he was recognised as the most outgoing student, and completed his speciality study in nephrology and general (internal) medicine at Wessex Deanery. Glomerulonephritis and chronic kidney disease are two areas of special interest for Dr. Baikunje. He has written articles about IgA nephropathy, postinfectious glomerulonephritis, and vasculitis. He is a physician faculty member for the SingHealth Internal Medicine and Renal Residency Programs and he enjoys instructing.
