BIOGRAPHY

Senior Consultant for the National University Hospital's Division of Neurology is Professor Benjamin Ong. He presently serves as the National University of Singapore's Senior Vice President (Health Education & Resources). From January 2014 to January 2020, he was the Director of Medical Services at the Ministry of Health in Singapore. At the National University of Singapore, Prof. Ong earned his MBBS in 1981. He continued his education in neurology by completing fellowships at the Institute for Molecular Medicine and the Institute of Neurology in the UK and Singapore (Oxford, UK). His areas of interest in study are neuroimmunology and neuroepidemiology. He continues to practise postgraduate internal medicine and Neurology Specialist Training. Prof. Ong was awarded the National Day Public Administration Medal (Silver) in 2009 for his contributions to leadership, and the Public Administration Medal (Gold) in 2015 for his exceptional performance in these areas. For his services to Singapore's healthcare in 2020, Professor Ong received the Meritorious Service Medal from the President of the Republic of Singapore.
