Package Description
Kyphoplasty Balloon-Spine:
It is a minimally invasive surgery that seeks to reduce pain, rectify kyphosis, and restore spinal height. An inflatable bone tamp is introduced into the collapsed vertebral body during this surgery. When the balloon is inflated, it raises the end plates, restoring the height of the vertebral body.
Balloon kyphoplasty is a minimally invasive technique that reduces and stabilises the fractures in vertebral compression fractures (VCFs). It is used to treat pathological vertebral body fractures caused by osteoporosis, malignancy, or benign lesions.
Disease Overview
Pathologic vertebral compression fractures
Vertebral compression fractures (VCFs) are caused by the collapse of the bone block or vertebral body in the spine, resulting in severe pain, deformity, and loss of height. These fractures are more prevalent in the thoracic spine (the middle section of the spine), particularly in the lower section.
Disease Signs and Symptoms
Symptoms may or may not be present in pathologic vertebral fractures. Symptoms of pathologic fractures may include discomfort in the back, legs, and arms. If the fracture has impacted the spinal cord and/or nerves in the spine, you may have numbness and/or weakness in your arms and legs.
Disease Causes:
Pathological spine fractures occur as a result of a disease condition affecting the spine. They're known as spinal compression fractures, and they're very prevalent among the elderly. Osteoporosis, Paget's disease, other illnesses, and spinal infections are all possible causes (osteomyelitis).
Disease Diagnosis:
Osteoporosis has traditionally been excluded from the concept of pathologic vertebral compression fracture (pVCF). Primary spine tumours, metastatic illness to the axial skeleton, infection, and dysregulations in bone metabolism, such as Paget's disease, are all etiologies for pVCF.
Tenderness and sensitivity at particular vertebrae along the spine will be tested if a vertebral compression fracture is suspected. If a vertebral fracture is suspected based on the patient's history and physical examination, an x-ray will be required to confirm the diagnosis.
Disease Treatment;
Pain alleviation, reversal or stability of neurological impairments, and spine stabilisation are all aims of therapy. Nonoperative therapies are often suggested for less severe pathologic fractures. Taking pain medicines, reducing physical activity, and wearing a brace are some of these options.
