BIOGRAPHY

A/Prof Mikael Hartman, who is originally from Stockholm, Sweden and trained at the Karolinska Institute, has been in practise in Singapore since 2009. He also obtained his general surgery board certification from there in 2005. He earned his doctorate in epidemiology in 2007, and his areas of expertise include breast cancer aetiology and prognostification as well as cancer prognosis inheritance. In 2002 and 2006, he shared the Breast Cancer Concept Award given by the US Army. He is heading the establishment of the Singapore Breast Cancer Cohort, the Singapore-Malaysia Breast Cancer Working Group, and the Breast Cancer Prevention Program at the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health. He also directs a research group with more than 10 individuals, including three PhD candidates (SSHSPH). Breast Cancer Research, British Journal of Surgery, European Journal of Cancer, Lancet Oncology, and other journals have all published the research. He holds the positions of Head of the Surgical Clinical Epidemiology Unit at NUHS, Deputy Head of Breast Services in the Department of Surgery at NUH, Research Director of the University Surgical Cluster Research Committee at NUHS, Deputy Director of the Initiative for Research and Innovation in Surgery at NUHS, and Member of the SSHSPH Senior Management Committee and Faculty Promotion and Tenure Committee.
