Clin Assoc Prof Veronique Tan Kiak Mien

At both the National Cancer Centre Singapore and the Singapore General Hospital, Dr. Veronique Tan oversees the Breast Surgery Department. She is also the director of the Duke-NUS Breast Center at SingHealth.One of the few breast surgeons in Singapore with a formal breast oncoplastic surgery training is Dr. Tan. Dr. Tan thinks that each patient should have a customised, personalised surgical treatment because the appearance of the breast following cancer excision is significant. Her current scope of practise includes all benign breast disorders, oncoplastic breast surgery, breast reconstruction, and the surgical diagnosis and treatment of symptomatic and screen-detected breast cancer. Dr. Tan is a clinical associate professor at the Duke-NUS Medical School and is actively involved in both teaching and research. Breast cancer, particularly breast cancer in young women and hereditary breast cancers, is of interest to her in terms of research. She is the principal investigator (PI) of a clinical trial looking at the minimally invasive Targeted Axillary Dissection for patients who respond favourably to neoadjuvant systemic therapy and actively investigates ways to safely de-escalate surgical therapy for breast cancer. Dr. Tan is frequently asked to speak at conferences in the region and abroad, where she exhibits her research and surgical methods. She takes delight in teaching the upcoming generation of breast surgical oncologists the finest practises for oncoplastic surgery and breast cancer treatment, both locally and from the surrounding area.
