BIOGRAPHY

In 1995, Dr. Demers graduated with his medical degree from the Université of Montreal. In 2001, he completed his heart surgery residency programme at the University of Montreal. He finished a master's degree in biological sciences while he was completing his residency. The following year, Dr. Demers was awarded grants to finish a two-year fellowship at Stanford University under the direction of Dr. D. Craig Miller. During this time, he gained interest and expertise in the management and treatment of aortic disease, including aortic root reconstruction with valve preservation, aortic dissection surgery, valve repair surgery, and endovascular treatment of aortic disease (including aneurysms, dissections, bicuspid aortic valve disease, and Marfan's syndrome). He has authored more than 60 publications in peer-reviewed journals, more than 50 scientific abstracts, and 8 book chapters as a co-author. Since 2008, he has served as the education coordinator for the University of Montréal's cardiac surgery residency programme. Since 2010, he has also served as the association's coordinator of continuous professional development.
