BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Talal Al-Atassi is an assistant professor at the University of Ottawa as well as a surgeon in the Division of Cardiac Surgery at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute. He is presently the Residency Training Program's Program Director. Harvard University awarded Dr. Al-Atassi a master's degree in public health along with his medical degree from McGill University. He finished his surgical residency at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, where he served as chief resident. He then underwent fellowships at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles for his thoracic aortic and endovascular work and Emory University in Atlanta for his interventional structural heart and minimally invasive heart surgery. Dr. Al-Atassi is the first surgeon from Canada to receive formal training in cutting-edge transcatheter methods at prestigious facilities in the US during his fellowship. The Heart Institute, the University of Ottawa, the Ottawa Hospital, and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, among others, have all given Dr. Al-Atassi accolades for his clinical and research work. He reviews articles for Circulation and Annals of Thoracic Surgery, two prestigious journals. In 2017, Dr. Al-Atassi joined the Heart Institute's Division of Cardiac Surgery.
