Liu, Peter

At the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, Dr. Peter Liu serves as vice president for research and chief scientific officer. In 2012, Dr. Liu started working at the Heart Institute as its Scientific Director. At Harvard Medical School and the University of Toronto, he earned his M.D. and finished his postgraduate training in internal medicine. Dr. Liu facilitated collaboration amongst researchers from diverse institutions while serving as the first Director of the Heart & Stroke/Richard Lewar Centre of Excellence at the University of Toronto. This increased the effect of publications. In his subsequent role as Scientific Director of the Institute of Circulatory and Respiratory Health at the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), Dr. Liu fostered national and international research networks and launched national networks in imaging, clinical trials, and knowledge translation. The Ottawa region cardiovascular research strategy (ORACLE), created by Dr. Liu, is currently being put into action. Dr. Liu is the leader of numerous expansive national and international research initiatives.
