Profile (Overview)
One of Ontario's largest and most complete Regional Cancer Programs is housed at the Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre (JHCC), which is situated on the Hamilton escarpment. In addition to a comprehensive emergency department, medical and acute care services, surgical oncology, complex malignant haematology, oncology, orthopaedics, arthroplasty, rehabilitation, and diagnostics, this general medical/surgical hospital serves a population of more than 2.3 million people. The JHCC is a leader in cellular therapy, adult stem cell transplant, and other life-saving procedures. It was here that Canada's first successful transplant from an unrelated donor occurred. The hospital is one of the most cutting-edge academic and research-intensive cancer centres in the nation. There are plans to build a new patient care tower and improved diagnostics.
