In January 2016, Professor Nicholas van As was named The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust's medical director. Since 2008, he has served as a Consultant Clinical Oncologist in The Royal Marsden's Urology Unit, where he also serves as the facility's Clinical Lead for CyberKnife and stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT). Nicholas serves as a trustee for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity in addition to being a professor at The Institute of Cancer Research. Professor van As, the national clinical lead for NHS England's Commissioning via Evaluation Programme for SBRT, formerly served as Chair of the UK SBRT Consortium. His primary areas of interest in research are stereotactic and image-guided radiation, risk assessment in early prostate cancer, and functional MRI. Mr Aadil Khan

He received a Wellcome Trust Research Fellowship during this period to pursue a PhD at the Institute for Cancer Research (ICR) to study virally-delivered gene therapies as focused treatments to avert post-radiotherapy fibrosis.
