The hospital has implemented a number of new technologies, including Modic Antibiotic Spinal Therapy, which is used to treat chronic low back pain brought on by a bacterial infection in the spinal discs, "Nanoknife," which uses electricity to kill soft tissue tumours, the da Vinci robotic surgical system, which makes complex surgery easier, and "SmartPill," an ingestible capsule that monitors pressure, pH, and temperature changes as it passes through the gastrointestinal tract. The hospital has expanded recently from its primary location on Nottingham Place, a few blocks west of Harley Street. The Institute of Sport, Exercise, and Health was developed by the hospital in collaboration with the NHS and other parties.
