The Bochner Eye Institute has long been regarded as one of Toronto's top facilities for eye care since its foundation in 1929. Over the years, our top ophthalmologists and eye surgeons have contributed to the development of novel surgical techniques. Now, Drs. Raymond Stein, Albert Cheskes, and Fatimah Gilani continue the long heritage of quality by giving our patients in Toronto, Scarborough, Unionville, and other nearby communities the finest calibre of vision care.

DOCTORS

In 1961, Dr. Cheskes received his medical degree from the University of Toronto. He received his ophthalmology residency training at the Mayo Clinic from 1963 to 1966. While conducting corneal research at the University of Minnesota, he also earned a Master of Science degree. Dr. Cheskes is an active employee at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto, an assistant professor of ophthalmology at the University of Toronto, and the former Chief of Ophthalmology at Centenary Health Center. He also practises ophthalmology at Sunnybrook Hospital and Scarborough General Hospital. He has long been an advocate for public safety in ophthalmology and served as Chairman of the Canadian Ophthalmology Association's Eye Safety Committee. View Profile

Dr. Raymond Stein has been asked to speak at a lot of medical conferences and colleges. and has written and published numerous books, book chapters, journal, and magazine articles. Dr. Stein has established himself as a specialist and innovator in refractive and implant surgery after performing more than 200,000 successful eye procedures. He was selected to act as the chief eye surgeon for the W Network's Style by Jury as a tribute to his remarkable surgical abilities. Also, he is the editor of Clinical and Surgical Ophthalmology, a renowned scientific magazine. At the University of Toronto Medical School, Dr. Stein earned his medical degree to launch his professional career. Dr. Raymond Stein continued his studies by completing fellowships in cornea and external diseases at the Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia and an ophthalmology residency at the renowned Mayo Clinic. Ophthalmologist Dr. Fatimah Gilani is board-certified in both Canada and the US. She has a diversified background and an international viewpoint due to her education on three different continents. In Ireland at the Royal College of Surgeons, Dr. Gilani started her career as a surgeon. In Springfield, Massachusetts, at the Baystate Medical Center, a hospital connected to Tufts University, she finished her medical internship. She finished her ophthalmology residency at the University of Arizona, then pursued a medical retina fellowship at Northwell-Long Island Jewish Hospital and the Vitreous Retina Consultants of New York under the guidance of renowned retina specialists Drs. Gaetano Barile, William Schiff, K Bailey Freund, and Lawrence Yannuzzi. View Profile

After finishing her ophthalmology residency at McGill University, Dr. Tucker pursued two more years of oculoplastic surgery specialised training, spending the first year in Montreal and the second in San Francisco. She finished her fellowships in 1994. She subsequently began working for eight years in the ophthalmology division at McGill University and the University of Montreal. After that, she relocated to Chicago and enrolled at the University of Chicago. There, she established a private clinic with a specialisation in advanced cataract surgery and cosmetic eyelid surgery. She relocated to Toronto in 2006 and started working at Mount Sinai Hospital's ophthalmology division. She has held various surgical honours, served as chief of oculoplastics at the University of Toronto, served as past president of the Canadian Oculoplastic Society, has a number of publications to her credit, and has given numerous lectures both domestically and abroad.
