Profile (Overview)

A 506,000 square foot hospital called the Peter Lougheed Centre (PLC) is located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It is run by Alberta Health Services, formerly known as the Calgary Health Area, and offers surgical and medical care not only to Calgary but also to Southern Alberta. The PLC provides ambulatory care, an intensive care unit (ICU), and a 24-hour emergency department. Peter Lougheed, the premier of Alberta from 1971 to 1985, is remembered by the name. With 500 beds when it first opened in 1988, the hospital now has more than 600. A new intensive care and coronary care unit, together with 140 inpatient beds, are all part of the new East Wing, which was finished in 2008. A new roof-top helipad was also included in the design for emergency services.

Prior to finishing his orthopaedic surgery residency there, Dr. LaMothe earned his MD and PhD in biomedical engineering at the University of Calgary. After that, he completed two one-year fellowships at the Hospital for Special Surgery and Weil-Cornell Medical College in New York City. His two fellowships were in difficult foot and ankle reconstructive surgery for his second fellowship and orthopaedic trauma surgery for his first fellowship.
